What a 24 hours of Old Boy & Girl Sport!

22nd June 2017

In what many would describe as arguably the best 24 hours in Old Boy & Girl sport - Collegiate has once again proved to be at the centre stage in three international locations.

First up Earl Bamber (Hy4 2004-07) won his second Le Mans title for Porsche alongside Brendon Hartley and Timo Benrhard.
It was a fantastic comeback win considering that the Porsche No 2 was held up for more than one hour due to technical problems earlier in the race and at one point was in 56th place.
"It was absolutely crazy. When I heard it [the engine] go 'Bang' I thought 100 per cent our race was over," Bamber said.
"The guys turned it around. We thought we would finish in the top five. But this race really chooses you when it wants you to win."

Next we move to Georgia where the Junior Rugby World Cup was being played. Stephen Perofeta (H3 2013-2015) had flown out straight after his debut for the Auckland Blues against the British Lions to join the team after the original first five was injured. Stephen converted 7 tries to help the team win comfortably 64-17. Stephen returns home to rejoin the Auckland Blues. An exciting career to follow!

Staying in Europe we join Rebecca Scown (GW 1999-2000) who claimed a Gold Medal in the Women's 8 for NZ Rowing at the World Cup 2 event in Poznan. Rebecca's season then takes her to Royal Henley followed by World Cup 3 in Lucerne, Switzerland. Rebecca rowed in seat 6 of the 8 as one of the more experienced crew members.

Wanganui Collegiate School is proud of its alumni and none more so in the 24 hours experienced last weekend!
