Leaving a Legacy

Making a gift in your Will

Leave a legacy of a lifetime - A bequest is a meaningful way to create a legacy for future generations at WCS.

Gifts are invested in the WCS Foundation Trust Fund, generating income to provide ongoing support to Whanganui Collegiate School.

If you have a specific area within the School that you would like your bequest to go towards, please get in touch. We are keen to understand what is important to you, and we can advise the best fit on how your gift can meet your preference and assist the School.

How to leave a bequest

Your gift can be stated in your will or codicil.

The following wording is suggested for leaving a gift:

  • I give to the WCS Foundation (% of estate, the residue of my estate, or sum of money, or description of property or assets) for general purposes, for which the receipt of an authorised officer of the Foundation shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my trustees.

  • You should consult your legal advisor when making a will or adding a codicil to your existing will to ensure it represents your wishes.

  • If your assets are held in a Family Trust, you may give your Trustees a simple Memorandum of Wishes stating that on your death, you wish the Trustees to make a gift to the WCS Foundation. Your Memorandum can describe the gift in a similar way to that set out above for a will.
